Why buy a slow cooker?
Fast food, street food, and other snacking are so popular nowadays because they are cheap, fast, and tasty. Then I am sure you are more than one to ask the question, why buy a slow cooker!?
The slow cooker is a basic device in many kitchens. However, their introduction did not occur until the 1970s, when almost everyone used one. For some reason, the 1980s saw a decline in the popularity of the slow cooker, but by 1990 they were back in demand. This is probably due to changes in our way of life and the beginning of the fast pace of life we all have nowadays.
Slow cookers including the Ninja cooking system are used to cook simmered dishes, but what does “simmered” mean? According to the dictionary, “simmer” means slow cooking. In butchery “meat stew" is pieces of second or third category that after a long time of cooking they become tender and tasty. It’s by visiting the information center of meat that I learned a little more about pieces of meat qualified second and third category. To simplify, these are the pieces of meat that are richer in collagen and this is where my research beforehand. Collagen is a white and elastic fabric that can retain the fibers, but that has the bad taste to be tough in the mouth. To overcome collagen, it must be countered with a long time of cooking which transform them into gelatin, making the creamy meat. If your stew meat is hard, it is not, as some imagine, because you have cooked too long but on the contrary, not enough for the collagen to become tender. The other secret of the stew is the liquid in which the meat is cooked, such as broth or wine. When meat is cooked for a long period, it expels its juice and becomes dry. If the stew meat is tasty, it is because the liquid will replace the expelled juice in the fibers.
The traditional cuisine is full of delicious recipes. To name a few among my favorite, there is the stew, the veal stew, the bourguignon beef or lamb stew. Being delicious, slow-cooked dishes have many advantages: they are easy to prepare (no need to be a blue cord to engage in preparation), they constitute a full meal (they will help you comply with 5 fruits and vegetables per day) and they are economical since we can use less noble cuts of meat. Here's more information regarding slow cookers especially the Ninja cooking system.
Despite all these benefits, stews can be neglected because of their long cooking time. When working, we get late at night, we find it difficult to conceive the need to wait four hours before getting on table. The stew is not at all suited to our modern lifestyle and it is for this reason that we often refer to as the slow cooked dishes as the delicious meals of Sunday; the only day where you can spend time in the kitchen.
